PIPELINE Celebrates "Coaching the Dream Team"!

KTEC PIPELINE Innovators, mentors, advisors and alumni are teamed up for one last official event before graduation. It’s Mentor Madness baby!

The evening was a celebration of "Coaching the Dream Team" throughout the 2008 PIPELINE year-long fellowship. We hooped it up at the coolest place in town, the College Basketball Experience at the Sprint Center in Kansas City on Thursday, November 13.

PIPELINE Conducting Interviews for 2009 Class

KTEC PIPELINE is interviewing candidates for the 2009 technology entrepreneur class. PIPELINE seeks entrepreneurs who are prepared to work tenaciously on their venture, whether it is a start-up or an existing business. The program requires attendance at scheduled three-day seminars that occur at least four times during the year - as well as approximately five days of independent work per quarter. Each Innovator will be provided a stipend of $20,000, designed to assist in advancing ventures and providing a source of funds to pursue projects uncovered during the KTEC PIPELINE process.

First Round interviews took place in late October, and final interviews are scheduled for November 18 and 19. The new class of Innovators will be announced during the “Innovator of the Year” celebration on January 22 at the Overland Park Sheraton.

Angel Investors Collaborate on Funding for Innovator's Company

A local group of angel investors has led an effort to raise $1.5 million for PIPELINE Innovator Jan Srack’s company, Matrix.

Midwest Venture Alliance was the lead investor on the fundraising project for Matrix, which has invented an electronic measuring system called the Matrix Wand. What's different about this deal is that the investment involved the collaboration of several private-sector angel groups in the state.

“It serves as an example - and a model - of what private-sector investor groups across the state can do when there is a promising company or technology that needs the kind of funding that no single investor group can provide on its own,” said Trish Brasted, MVA managing member and chief executive of Wichita Technology Corporation.

PIPELINE Heats Up with Second Annual Blues & Barbeque Party!

KTEC PIPELINE hosted the second annual "PIPELINE Blues and Barbeque" Innovator/Mentor party Tuesday, August 26.

This year, we fired up two grills to compete for barbeque honors, and we gave the Innovators a chance to sing "the blues" about issues they need help with, and they also updated us with good news!

Thanks again to Jeff Reene for hosting this event at his home. We cannot emphasize enough how much the Mentor "magic" portion of PIPELINE is essential to the Innovators' success and motivation.
