"Mission Possible" - KTEC PIPELINE "Innovator of the Year"

What an action-packed and exciting day for all devoted to Innovation and Entrepreneurship!
The KTEC PIPELINE "Innovator of the Year" event drew a capacity crowd to Overland Park to cap off the first year of the KTEC PIPELINE. 
 

The "Mission Possible" themed event honored the KTEC PIPELINE "Innovator of the Year," the graduating (Charter) class, the incoming 2008 class, the mentors and advisors of the program and bestowed two Entrepreneurial Leadership Awards on private sector mentors who had given back richly the technology entrepreneurship efforts in Kansas. IOTY Competition!
The IOTY event began with a competition among the Charter Class of the KTEC PIPELINE proving they had the talent and knowledge to be named the "Innovator of the Year." The PIPELINE Innovators, after spending a year honing their ventures as well as their pitches - presented their companies to a panel of venture capitalists and technology experts.

, October Capital, Kansas City; Jane Martin,Village Ventures, Indianapolis, Indiana; Oliver Valente, Technology Consultant, Kansas City and Tom Wiggans, Stiefel Laboratories, Palo Alto, California.

This event was action packed and provided another exceptional opportunity to exponentially expand the network of entrepreneurial activity in our region - bringing together the dynamic mix of experienced entrepreneurs, start up companies, investors, policy makers, media and more.

 
Competition Brings Out the Crowd: Kauffman Global Scholars 
The Kauffman Global Scholars chose the KTEC PIPELINE "Innovator of the Year" event to kick off their six month entrepreneurship year in the United States. The group, led by Wendy Torrance, Kauffman Foundation, attended the IOTY competition in the afternoon, followed by a KTEC PIPELINE Mentor panel with Michael Beckloff, Tom Lauerman and Ken Lynn - and dinner to celebrate the "Innovator of the Year!" Innovator of the Year
Olga Koper, NanoScale Corporation
, won the IOTY Award, designed to recognize entrepreneurial excellence - and incorporated scoring from a formal business plan, investor presentations, as well as a score that reflected her performance through the year of the KTEC PIPELINE.
 
 
Entrepreneur Leadership
Michael Beckloff, Beckloff Associates, Inc. and Rob Herrington, Horizon Analog, Inc. were awarded with the "Entrepreneur Leadership Award" recognizing experienced entrepreneurs who are greatly contributing to building a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Kansas.

Hard work has been the main focus, and tonight the KTEC PIPELINE Charter Class completes their fellowship Mission - and is just beginning their Mission to help us create a rich alumni program and network for future Innovators.

KTEC PIPELINE Grabs Headlines with IOTY

Kansas aims to give its most promising high-tech entrepreneurs more reasons to keep their companies here. "It all comes down to people," said Tracy Taylor, president and chief executive officer of the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corp. "If you don't have the people, if you don't have the leaders, it's not going to work."

 

 

KTEC names Koper Innovator of the Year

Olga Koper of NanoScale Corp. in Manhattan was named Thursday night as the winner of the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corp.' s Innovator of the Year competition. Koper is one of 10 entrepreneurs who participated in KTEC's inaugural Promoting Innovation, Providing Education & Leadership, Investing in New Entrepreneurs class.

Joey Blue has learned a lot in a year. So much so that the Wichitan -- one of 10 Kansas entrepreneurs named last year to Kansas Technology Enterprise Corp.' s inaugural PIPELINE class -- has changed his business idea. The former Wichita State University baseball player entered the program last January planning to start a social networking Web site for student athletes, their families and coaches.
