In June of 2002, Tom Lauerman and his business partner sold their company, GeoAccess, Inc., to United Health Group (UNH) a $30 billion public company. Lauerman co-founded GeoAccess in 1991 to provide software and services to the managed healthcare industry. There were no outside investors, and at the time of the sale, GeoAccess had revenue of over $30M and more than 300 employees. In each of the company's first three years of eligibility, GeoAccess was recognized by Inc. magazine as one of the nation's 500 fastest-growing private companies. The company is also the recipient of numerous technology and business awards.
Prior to founding GeoAccess, Lauerman was with Towers Perrin where he consulted internationally on the issues of managed healthcare, information systems and actuarial science. While at Towers Perrin, Lauerman and his partner pioneered techniques which later became the basis for GeoAccess software. Prior to joining Towers Perrin, he was Actuary and Vice President of Information Systems for a national life and health insurer.
Lauerman earned his engineering degree in computer science from the University of Nebraska, where he later taught actuarial science. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. In 1999, Mr. Lauerman was named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He is currently an investor in, and serves as board member or board advisor to, many private companies. He also serves on the board of several entrepreneurial entities such as the Enterprise Center of Johnson County, KTEC and KTEC’s Investment Advisory Committee and just completed a two-year term as president of the Kansas City-based Entrepreneurial Exchange.
